There are many ways of breaking a heart. Stories were full of hearts broken by love,
but what really broke a heart was taking away its dream - whatever that dream might be.

Musicaholic

Ok. Some of you may have guessed by coming here infrequently that I am a music consumer. I mean if there were no music, I would cease to remain sane. Don’t even test me on that one.

I truly believe music is a religion of sorts. There is no dissertation at this very moment. I have no concrete factual information to support my theory, it’s just an internal longing I have. I do know that waves of melody cause each of us internal awakenings of one type or another. It is capable of lifting us out of our lives into another parallel above or bringing us closer to an internal voice we can’t absolutely voice. Music can calm, excite, derive, distance, communicate, meld and reunite. If you have seen August Rush, this basically covers the ideas I have about the force of music.

Further more, there is a type of reverence for people that are capable of wrangling these tones and corralling them into bars of notes (with or without lyric) that change our lives. They are viewed as gods, and/or demons. They are everyday people who remind us of this touch by just sitting on our city streets gathering loose change, spreading a message only music can deliver.

What is even more interesting to me is how inherent and diverse it remains despite the regurgitation and repetition through out its evolution. Like thumbprints and portraits, songs can be reminiscent of the past, and there is still originality to each composition.

Whew. what does all THAT mean? I love music. Give me more and more and more. I can't get enough. I have to say that maybe its not better than a couple of things, but its a HECK of a lot better than a lot of others!!!!

Now. Check out a few new bands each week. I downloaded the ITunes Newport Folk Festival sampler from NPR All Songs Considered a few weeks ago and was turned onto "The Low Anthem". The name of the band suits their music, some of their songs remind me of anthems. There is so much good music out there... Find it. Its inspirational, creational and brings us closer to each other in a lot of ways.

Can I get an AMEN!? Peace Out....

More Dreams

Dont yawn and sigh. I am posting this dream question I made of a "friend" on a website I frequent, RadioParadise.com.

Enjoy my dream and his response. I apologize for the lack of information, but there is a good reason for that which will become clearer as we enter the new year.

I wrote:
Dear Doctor Seagull,

I had a dream I was hired to take band photos of a touring show with many musicians. Bob Dylan was one of them. He came and sat in my lap while I was in my wheelchair. He was wearing a black mohair vest and a black fedora. He rested his head on my shoulder and was talking to me. I don't remember all that he was saying. One thing that rang clear he mentioned he was glad I was taking pictures. Then he got up and got on the Greyhound bus and took off with the other bands. I sat and went through my images.

Then thinking I should be heading down the road because I would be missing some really good pictures if I didn't.

What the heck?

The response:
Dear Mem,

It is obvious from your dream that you are conflicted between your desires to tell stories about this world, as evidenced by your dream-job of photographer, and your desire to stay in one place in a stable home life where you can be respectable. There is a very important job for you to do now, decide whether to go for fame and fortune or to choose the quieter fortune of stability.

Your choice.

Sincerely,

Doctor (eeniemeenieminiemoe) Seagull

I enjoy a good answer to any question. I am polishing my rock star glasses as we speak.

Randomated.

Sorry that I have been slacking. To date this week?

My Space Has sucked my brain out of my head... :giggles: Its a vast ocean, of people and musicians. You can hear all kinds of music there. NEW music, without purchasing it (which any poverty stricken gas buying consumer knows is the last on the list when you need food n stuff) and I feel back in touch. And finding new music. Flirting a little too. That doesn't hurt.

Has anyone else gotten into Imeem? Made your playlists? Uploaded songs? Looked for songs that you can hear online? I have a renewed interest in music. wopeeeee!!!!!!

I watched No Country for Old Men. I was really pissed when the good guy died. And the main character will always be psycho for me no matter what role he plays. May have changed his career forever. I should watch it again, but I sent it back to Netflix.

There are fires close to my job. People I work with live close to this fire. I am worried for peoples safety.

My son is in Day Camp. He comes home everyday wanting to still be outside, and falls asleep around 8 pm! Thank you almighty FSM for the extra hours of parent time in the evening. I bless George who heads up this camp. Poor thing. When i walked in the other day all the kids were whining about something! i mean its a serious whine-fest in a group of five year olds. I said, do they whine all day LONG? He rolled his eyes and said OH yea. This is mild. I bet he wants to change his name, like I want to change mine from mommy sometimes.

I spend some of that free time reflecting on what I really want from my life here. What do I need to do next to keep moving forward. I need some studio space or a corner of my house to put up an easel and paint. ("manifests positive thoughts of creating her next level".)

What the heck am I going to get my dad for his birthday? sighs.

What the heck am I going to do on the fourth of july? thinks about food and fireworks.

Back sooner than last time.

Eric Hutchinson

Another newbie to my ITunes library Eric Hutchinson

You heard it here first (or maybe you didn't, lucky you). This is a very well edited CD and heavy on the production, so if you don't like that type of music, this may not be for you. I am a fan of all styles of production from raw to overproduced. I can't find a favorite here. They are all good. My personal selections from "Sounds Like This" are Outside Villanova, Rock and Roll, Food Chain and Ok Its Allright with me. A talented songwriter. I am going to post these lyrics from the song OH!, because I like the cleverness of them.

i got arrested in the dark of the night
the cop got restless as he read me my rights
he told me "im always envious of those that i jail
if i got locked up nobody'd come to help me post bail"
and i said "oh!"

went to a party on the side of a hill
met three latinas who had gotten their fill.
they told me "nobody ever gets us down on our knees
simply to help us take a load off our feet."
and i said "oh!"

and im never sure what i'm living for but it's always on my mind
someone comes along always proves me wrong think im gonna be fine

i picked a pocket just to give it all back
took out the license left the money in tact
the man said "i wanna thank you" and i had to ask why
"That was the old me I was living a lie"
and i said "oh!"

riding the subway with the scent of her hair
she took out a toothbrush started using it there
she explained "im always sure today's the day i will die
i wanna look good if i get to look god in the eye"
and i said "oh!"

and im never sure what i'm living for but it's always on my mind
someone comes along always proves me wrong think im gonna be fine

we get lost in the back of our minds
got nothing to burn but time time time
everybody's got the love but they keep it inside

met an acquaintance we were reintroduced
with more in common than we had in our youth
she told me "you look the same" i said "i'm now a new man"
she asked me "how does that work" "i started giving a damn"
and i said "oh!"

For my money you can use the word OH too many times but I love his music. Find some and enjoy for yourself.

And on a sadder note? I will never EVER be the The Pioneer Woman. Ever.... I know your disappointed mom, but my life is a little too surreal to be served on white bread. I love you despite it all anyway! :kisses:

Pete Yorn - Life on a Chain

I live on a chain and you share the same last name, as a joke,
I sent a bottle of whiskey, as you choked,
I knew it made you feel dirty,
And I was waiting over here for life to begin,
I was looking for the new thing,
And you were THE sunshine heading my front-line,
I was alone, you were just around the corner from me.
Time alone is good, I spend my days in the city,
Dirty neighborhood, you know you'll never convince me,
So I sold the town away, I couldn't wait to forget you,
I was killed in half a day, I hadn't time to regret you,
And I was waiting over here for life to begin,
I was looking for the new thing
And you were the sunshine heading my front line,
I was alone you were just around the corner from me.
I, I'm still on the chain, and you, had the same last name,
As a joke I sent a bottle of whiskey
As you choked you said it made you feel dirty...
Waiting over here, for life to begin,
Still looking for the new thing,
And you were the sunshine heading my front-line,
I was alone, you were just around the corner from me

Life on a Chain - Pete Yorn

Okay. I don't know if you know anything about Pete Yorn but he opened up for Crowded House when I saw them last fall. He really is a great songwriter. You probably know him from the song Strange Condition. I just happened to like the song Life on a Chain better (and now Undercover). I always was a rebel. He sounds like Jim Morrison to me in some of his songs, Chris Cornell in others. His guitar work on the song Undercover reminds me of Brian Eno! Very "Taking Tiger Mountain" to me... Does anyone remember Brian Eno? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Get you sum Pete Yorn. You wont be too sorry.

Thanks Legzy for the CD! :hugs:
